Introduction Part of our holiday included a seven day cruise on the Celebrity Cruise Ship 'Summit', which sailed from Vancouver to Seward during the period 2nd - 9th July 2004.
Day 5 (Juneau) This gallery contains a small selection of photos taken during our stopover at the third Alaskan port of call.
A quick look at some tourist information told us that the City and Borough of Juneau is a home-rule municipality under the Constitution of the State of Alaska (ie: is the Capital and not Anchorage as may be first thought). It has a Council/Manager form of government and the Borough Assembly is composed of the Mayor and eight Assembly members.
We left the ship and took to the hills, literally! A short journey on the Mount Roberts Tramway located near the cruise ship port gave an aerial overview of the nearby port and surrounding topology.
We managed a two hour walk from the top of the tramway back to the town, by which time a beer was definitely required, as it looked like we had been on a cross country run. It was a good job that the 'Red Dog Saloon' was a 'spit and sawdust' type of bar, otherwise we would not have been allowed in! That said, it was a great place to visit, the music and atmosphere made the visit really worthwhile.
