Following my 60th Birthday in August and still in party mood, it was time to trawl the web and local travel shop for a suitable short break with ideally some sun after the dismal summer in the UK.
I soon came across a week's cruising holiday taking in a number of Croatian and Italian ports whilst sailing along the Adriatic. Starting from Corfu, the ship called at Rovinj, Trieste, Venice, Zadar and Dubrovnik, before returning to the Greek Island of Corfu a week later.
Although a week is a relatively short time to cruise, it probably was enough given the food consumed during that time....
The 20,000 ton, 10 deck, 600 foot long liner had a capacity to carry around 1200 passengers. We found the ship comfortable and with character, but showing signs of it's 50 years in service. The tour operator, TUI, had previously announced that it would be phased out of service by the end of 2008, so it was a good opportunity to sail with her on one of the remaining cruises and to take in the ambience of a smaller ship.
Our cruise was made all the more pleasant by the many nice people we met, not to mention the chat and putting the world to right over a beer or two! In particular, my thanks for the lively banter with Eugene, Noreen, Carol and Kevin. Cheers to you all!
