Introduction This album contains a selection of my pictures taken on the Mid-Hants Railway (Watercress Line), Hampshire. This preservation railway was established after the line, formally owned by British Railways, closed in 1973.
Although parts of the line between Winchester and Alton were taken up after closure, MHR was created and opened initially between Alresford and Ropley in 1977, then through to Alton by 1985. Unfortunately, the line was never re-opened between Alresford and Winchester due to financial constraints.
I believe the present line is about 10 miles in length. It has no turntable, locos having to negotiate loops at either end.
The batch of photos in this album were taken in October 2008 when I was presented with a 60th Birthday gift by my family to drive and fire a 4-6-0 locomotive
