The third port of call was the Italian city of Venice. With some 117 islands, 150 canals and more than 400 bridges it is often described as being on of the world's most romantic cities.
This was our second visit to the city, the last in 1969. After a 20 minute journey by water boat from Venice Port, we soon discovered the city was so much busier. Everywhere you went, there were hordes of people, particularly in the obvious tourists spots.
When I can root them out, I will add slides from our 1969 visit to see how much change has occurred over that near forty-year period. One of the signs of ageing since our last visit appeared to be more street level flooding.
Although crowded and at times frustrating, there is still an obvious charm and vibrance to Venice. A stark contrast in commercialism compared with our first port of call, Rovinj.
Always colourful, the city offered some good opportunities to take many pictures. For that reason, this gallery is somewhat bloated compared to the other four galleries in this section of the photo library!
Later that day, Emerald sailed to the Croatian port of Zadar, where we took the opportunity to spend a day onboard the ship. From there Emerald moved on to it's final stopover at Dubrovnik.
This section of the photo library contains five galleries, split as follows:
Album 1 - Thomson Emerald Cruise Ship Album 2 - Rovinj, Croatia Album 3 - Trieste, Italy Album 4 - Venice, Italy Album 5 - Dubrovnik, Croatia
