Introduction Part of our holiday included a seven day cruise on the Celebrity Cruise Ship 'Summit', which sailed from Vancouver to Seward during the period 2nd - 9th July 2004.
Day 7 (Hubbard Glacier) This gallery contains a small selection of photos taken during our final full day at sea.
Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier on the North American continent and we were only able to see a small part of it from the ship. From its source in the Yukon, the glacier stretches 122 km to the sea at Yakutat Bay and Disenchantment Bay.
As this was an experience not to miss, we got up early as 'Summit' started to make it's way from the sea along the approach to the glacier was made just after 06:00hrs. We spent around one hour at the end of the passageway looking directly towards the glacier. No other ship was present at the time and with 'Summit' gently gliding it's way along, the silence was erie!
The pictures do not do justice to the aura and beauty of this inhospitable location. Without a doubt, it was an experience not to be forgotten and will form a long lasting memory.
